[1]

Vespa is a (self-described) high-class, noble Worker who gracefully soars through the sky using her custom propellers that manipulate wind.
Vespa's brother, also a Gravekeeper, is equipped with modern jet engines and optical weaponry. This created quite a bit of self-consciousness for Vespa, making her quite touchy about her "retro" conventional weapons. In reality, her design is not at all inferior. It's just different on the concept level. To massage her ego, Vespa asserts that her propellers are a "status symbol" rather than "retro," and thus adopted a "high-class lady" personality. However, when she lets her emotions get the best of her, she tends to drop the whole charade.[1]
Appearance[]
Vespa is a female Worker with a partial wasp and bee design concept. She has a very large posterior and thighs, which invoke the image of an insect's abdomen. She also has plane-like wings and propellers on her back, and cat-like ears on the sides of her head, which also have mandible-like parts.

History[]
Jungle Block[]

Vespa is encountered early on by Copen in the Grave Pillar's Jungle Block, and is annoyed with Copen and Lola for interrupting her tea time. Copen can't help but comment on her unusual propeller design, noting it's the first time he's seen something like it in this world, but puts that aside and asks to just borrow her key and leave without fighting.
Vespa dismisses his request, claiming she'd never give her key to some thieves who don't even have a guest ID. She is also angered by the comment on her propellers, and accuses him of making fun of her. Upholding the Gravekeepers' command to eliminate intruders, she then battles Copen, but is destroyed.
Laboratory Block[]
When Copen avoids Autochrome's laser shot from below, Autochrome commends him for his skill as the one who beat Vespa. When Copen asks if he seeks vengeance, Autochrome insists he doesn't, as by now Vespa is probably already being repaired.
Passage to Top Floor[]
Pursuing Ypsilon, Copen runs into the rebuilt Vespa and Autochrome, who have been ordered by Mother to stop him. The siblings work together for the first time in a fight against him and Lola. Despite their combined power, both Vespa and Autochrome are destroyed.
Vespa's ultimate fate is unclear, as it is possible the maintenance system will rebuild her again. While a blackout occurs and some machines in the Hanging Gardens begin shutting down after Mother's destruction, it is not known if this affects the tower below as well, and in the Hard Mode ending no such blackout is shown occurring.
Other Appearances[]
Card-en-Ciel[]

Abilities[]
She is a skilled warrior, capable of using a combination of wind-based abilities and missiles from her wings.
She is able to combine with her brother to form "Veschrome", a large mecha which is invulnerable to damage and wields both their abilities. However, there is a short time limit on this fusion.
Boss Battle Skills - Vespa[]
Skill | Description |
---|---|
Bombardement)[2] |
Vespa drops a succession of 3 missiles from above. The missiles travel along the ground at various distances. In Hard Mode there are more missiles and they can reverse direction. |
Orage Risée)[2] (French for Storm Light Breeze/Mocking Laughter) |
Vespa launches two wind projectiles from near to the ground, each one of which change direction towards the player once. Faster in Hard Mode. |
Plongée de L'enfer)[2] (French for Dive of Hell) |
A 3-step flying thrusting attack. Watch her movement closely and you'll see that it's not too hard to avoid. In Hard Mode, her third strike comes with a cyclone behind her that covers the arena's lower half. |
Rafale de Missile)[2] (French for Missile Flurry) |
Vespa descends while firing a storm of missiles, after which she performs a flying stab. In Hard Mode she unleashes a second burst of missiles while ascending. |
( (French for "Rain At Dusk", with the Kanji meaning "Twilight") |
Clad in a whirlwind that pulls in the player, Vespa destroys the footholds on the outer edges of the stage. She rains down missiles as she rages inside the twister. The stage remains damaged even after the skill ends, so watch your step. In Hard Mode, the missiles have longer lasting, blue explosions. |
Boss Battle Skills - Veschrome[]
Skill | Description |
---|---|
Vespa and Autochrome fly across the arena above and below two to three times. Unlike most moves where a boss goes off-screen, any tags placed on them will not vanish. In Hard Mode, they fly faster, and the lower flying sibling is too low to dash under. | |
Vespa launches two wind projectiles from near to the ground, each one of which change direction towards the player once. Faster in Hard Mode. | |
Autochrome launches four laser tags one after another going sideways and down, or down and then sideways. Each one that connects with Copen will place a blue, yellow, red, and finally purple tag on him, and once all have been fired Autochrome will shoot unblockable homing lasers that pierce Hyper Guard, doing increased damage for placed tag. In Normal Mode, being under fire from Gatling Blitz will cancel the homing laser attack. In Hard Mode, the tags are faster, and any connecting results in instant full damage, but he will not perform the followup laser sweep. | |
Vespa descends while firing a storm of missiles, after which she performs a flying stab. In Hard Mode she unleashes a second burst of missiles while ascending. | |
Autochrome's beam barrier emits lasers to the left and right, covering most of the arena. Can be cancelled with Gatling Blitz fire. In Hard Mode Gatling Blitz doesn't work, and he also shoots a burst of lasers upwards. | |
Connected Grandcross) |
Vespa and Autochrome temporarily combine and become invulnerable. Vespa creates cyclones on the edges of the stage and drops waves of her bombs from Stinger Torrent, while Autochrome continuously fires Optic Barrier in different patterns. In Hard Mode, Vespa uses her bombs with longer explosions. |
Once both siblings have had their HP reduced to 0, they will charge into each other and create a massive explosion. In Hard Mode, the explosion emits several smaller fireballs. |

Queen Bee of the Jungle
Jungle Block BGM, and Vespa's theme. | Ryo Yoshinaga |

Track notes:[3]
- Queen Bee of the Jungle
It’s the track of the Jungle Block and Vespa’s theme. A dense jungle of trees and waterfalls, the might and wilderness of nature are manifested. The melody has many notes, in the image of the prideful Vespa who talks in quick succession. There’s actually a little connection between this track and “Optical Glow”*.
*Laboratory Block/Autochrome's theme.
Unused SP Skill Chant[]
In the Bitsummit demo, instead of an animated skill cut-in, Vespa has text lines for Stinger Torrent in the same style as the ones of bosses in the first Luminous Avenger iX. This was cut from later demos and the final game.
The fair maiden looks to the sky
Embraced by the noble storm
A cloudburst of missiles rain down
Trivia[]
- Given the Workers' resemblance to the Mighty Numbers, as the helicopter-based Gravekeeper Vespa is likely based on Mighty No. 6, Aviator.
- As Luminous Avenger iX2 bosses are named after bike-related products,[4] Vespa is presumably named after the Italian luxury scooter brand Vespa.
- Her name is Italian for Wasp.
- All of Vespa's attack names are French in the Japanese version.
- In the announcement trailer and the Bitsummit and Tokyo Game Show demos, she appears in the Pillar Outskirts in place of Ypsilon.
- The rematch with Vespa and Autochrome is similar to the refight with Herculious Anchus and Kuwagust Anchus in Mega Man Zero 2.
- It is also worth noting that both battles end the exact same way. With the two siblings crashing into each other, and dying.
- Vespa is the only boss in Normal Mode to be weak to more than one EX Weapon.
