A Hexapyle (ゲートモノリス, Gate Monolith) is a type of barrier used by various groups to secure areas. Hexapyles are rapidly self-repairing, and can only be destroyed by either continuous fire or destructive attacks that fully shatter them in one blow. Although they are frequently used in facilities and field operations by the Sumeragi Group and later Eden, they are implied to be exclusive advanced technology, as Xiao Wu claimed to have never seen one in his homeland China.
The technology has been used for other applications. The completed Plasma Legion tank generates a hexapyle called the ZMC Field (ZMCフィールド) to cover its face in battle, although this barrier is noticeably weaker and clearer than a normal hexapyle. At Babel, numerous hexapyle-like fragile platforms were deployed.
In gameplay, hexapyles are typically used to mark the end of part of a stage. Destroying one will transfer the player to the second half or boss area.
