Gunvolt and Copen can obtain and equip a variety of equipment items that enhance their abilities. Gunvolt's equipment falls into several different categories: Bolts, Clips (added in Azure Striker Gunvolt 2), Contact Lenses, Rings, and Pendants. Copen's equipment, on the other hand, takes the form of Subroutines that he loads into his programmable White Tiger jacket.

In Azure Striker Gunvolt and Gunvolt 2, equipment is obtained primarily through synthesizing (crafting) in between stages, using Materials and money obtained by playing stages. In Luminous Avenger iX and Luminous Avenger iX 2, Copen obtains his subroutines using money alone, and can purchase them at any time, including in the middle of a stage.

In Azure Striker Gunvolt 3, the gear system is completely revamped in the form of Image Pulses, but equipment still appears in the D-nizer Mode in a very simplified form.

Enhancement[]

Most of Gunvolt's Contact Lenses, Rings, and Pendants have "+" variants that provide enhanced effects. In Gunvolt 1, these can be obtained by synthesizing two copies of the gear's original variant and then combining the two items with another synth recipe. In Gunvolt 2, enhancable items instead have experience meters that are separate from Gunvolt's own, and that fill up a bit if Gunvolt plays through and completes a stage while wearing them. Once an item's experience meter is full, it will automatically be replaced by its + variant.

Be advised that, in gear synth recipes that call for an existing gear item, the + variant cannot be substituted in for the original variant.

Bolts[]

Bolts (避雷針ダートカートリッジ, Lightning Rod (Dart) Cartridge) change the way Gunvolt fires shots, and in Gunvolt 1 only, the maximum number of tags that he can have on enemies at once.

Orochi

When fired, deploys an aerial drone to fire 7 other shots in a sweeping motion. Direction depends on where you fire. 8 Completing all main missions.
Vasuki
ヴァスキ
Homes in on other targets nearby if it hits its mark. 4 Defeating the final boss.
Dullahan
デュラハン
An auto-fire weapon that cannot tag, but fires extremely powerful bullets. Damage output is 40, and becomes 60 by equipping the Broken Necklace. Exclusive to Gunvolt 1; the Lucifer Clip inherits its function in Gunvolt 2. 0 Getting the true ending and completing all Special Missions.

Clips[]

This category is exclusive to Gunvolt 2, and takes the role of affecting Gunvolt's tag capacity. This means that maximum tag count is now independent of the equipped Bolt type.

Rings[]

Audiolockets[]

Audiolockets are a special type of pendant that affect which vocal song plays upon reaching 1000 Kudos.

Note that even though the song Sakura Efflorescence can play in Gunvolt 1, an Audiolocket for the song was not added until Gunvolt 2.

In Gunvolt 1, these Audiolockets' synth recipes are unlocked by banking 3000+ Kudos in certain stages. In Gunvolt 2, the synth recipes are unlocked via DLC in the 3DS version, but are available by default in other versions. In Gunvolt 2, these Audiolockets increase credit and EXP gain to 1.5x while equipped.

Subroutines[]

In Gunvolt 2, Copen's White Tiger jacket has a finite amount of memory that he can increase by leveling up or by finding hidden items in certain stages. (The maximum possible number of memory units that Copen can have is 35.) Each of Copen's subroutines takes up a certain amount of memory. If the subroutines that Copen equips collectively take up more memory than he has available, then he will receive debuffs in the form of "bugs".

List of Possible Bugs[]

  • Copen deals less damage.
  • Copen takes more damage.
  • HP is reduced to 1.
  • Subroutines have effects disabled.

It is currently unknown if bugs are random or if loading certain equipment can effect which bugs affect Copen.

In Gunvolt 2, just like with some of Gunvolt's equipment, most of Copen's subroutines have experience meters that fill up a bit when Copen plays through and completes a stage with the subroutine equipped. When a subroutine's experience meter is full, it is replaced by an "R" variant that takes up one less unit of memory than the original, and also has double the sell-back price. Be advised, however, that in subroutine synth recipes that call for an existing subroutine, the R variant cannot be substituted in for the original variant.

In Luminous Avenger iX and iX 2, the memory system has been removed, and Copen can equip as many subroutines as he wants with no ill effects.

* The initial launch release of the 3DS version allowed multiple copies of the Shield Construct subroutine to stack their effects when equipped simultaneously, granting Copen enough attack power to defeat even bosses with only a few shots if enough Shield Constructs were equipped. This was later patched; multiple Shield Constructs no longer grant greater attack power than a single Shield Construct.

Song Subroutines[]

Songs 01-05 disable Prevasion. The SONG_06 and all SUMERAGI songs increase credit and EXP gain to 1.5x while equipped.

Unused Subroutines[]

There are five unique subroutines present in the game data of Gunvolt 2 that didn't make the final cut. It's possible to equip them through external cheating tools like Cheat Engine, but they generally won't take effect when equipped. The exception is OD Freebird, which does grant unlimited Bullit Dashes as advertised, but doesn't enable Air Hops. A subroutine with a similar concept to OD Freebird appears later in Luminous Avenger iX as OD Icarus Wing.

Sealing Talisman Copen's lock-on Razor Wheel shots will always leave the target with at least 1 HP. This makes it easier to squeeze Kudos out of enemies by weakening them with lock-on shots before finishing with an Aerial EX, X Crush, or airborne Quick Razor bonus. Available after downloading the Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 DLC and defeating Kirin.

  • Most of Gunvolt's bolts are named after dragons or serpents, with "Cerberus" (localized name of Ghidorah) and Dullahan being exceptions. Many of them possess a number of heads which match the dart's tagging potential.
