Azure Striker Gunvolt Trilogy Enhanced (蒼き雷霆 ガンヴォルト トライアングル エディション, Armed Blue Gunvolt Triangle Edition) is an enhanced collection of Azure Striker Gunvolt, Azure Striker Gunvolt 2, and Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 with multiple new features and content changes, created as part of the series' 10th anniversary celebration. The compilation's theme song by Lumen for the title screen and menus is named Decade.[1] In addition to celebrating the previous decade of Azure Striker Gunvolt, the Trilogy Enhanced is intended to serve as a foundation for the next 10 years,[2] paving the way for a new sequel.[3]

Initially only intended as a Japan-/Asia-exclusive release centered around the physical edition with a design materials book bundled with it, on July 9th digital versions for Nintendo Switch, Playstation 5, and Steam were announced in response to requests by fans in other countries where the package version isn't available,[4][5][6][7] Currently, there are no plans for a release of the physical version outside of Asia.[8]

Going forward, only the Trilogy Enhanced will receive any potential future updates due to the old engines of the original versions making updates difficult.[3]

The physical limited edition, named 10th Anniversary Complete Box, includes an expanded version of the Azure Striker Gunvolt Official Complete Works with Gunvolt 3 content, as well as a complete soundtrack for the series.

Enhancements, Changes, and Other Notes[]

General[]

  • Copen and Lola's dialogue, as well as Lola's songs in Gunvolt 2, have been re-recorded by their Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX Japanese voice actors Yuma Uchida and Mayu Mineda respectively, replacing the retired Kosuke Masuo (in both games and the second Library Mode drama CD) and Yurika Endo (in Gunvolt 2). This will allow for developments that make players recall the connection between both series.[3]
  • All three games have been rebuilt with Inti Creates' newest game engine.[3] Gunvolt's shooting and Copen's movement controls have been more finely tuned.
  • Level designs have been modified.[3]
  • When playing with a controller, Skills in GV1 and GV2 are now activated similarly to Skill Image Pulses in GV3. Simple directional inputs with the right stick will activate corresponding skills.[10]
  • Timing of in-game dialogue being displayed has been adjusted due to the addition of new skills.[11]
  • The simplified Chinese text has been adjusted.
  • More backgrounds and portraits have been upgraded to HD than the Striker Pack.
  • Leaving an opening stage in a new save file, which previously required the Reset command (⊖+⊕+L+R for Switch), can now be simply done by pausing the game. All three games now allow players to choose Exit from the pause menu and return to the title screen without resetting.
  • Pitfalls in GV1 and GV2 do only 30 damage instead of causing instant death. This change does not apply to the Hard Mode in GV1. (GV3 pitfalls still do 50 damage.)
  • Pitfalls in GV1 and GV2 can now trigger Anthem, except in cases where Anthem in general is disabled.
  • Press a button to skip the loading screen in GV1 and GV2.

Azure Striker Gunvolt specific[]

  • A Skill shortcut can now be assigned in the same fashion as in Gunvolt 2; as a result, the button used for the Skill shortcut no longer permits toggling Story Mode+ in mid-gameplay.
  • Gunvolt can now use the 0 SP Skills introduced in Gunvolt 2, Crashbolt and Dragonsphere. Shadowstriker and Electroshock (partially brought back as Arc Unleash in Gunvolt 3), Skills previously cut from Gunvolt 2, have been added as well. The four are acquired via leveling up.[3] Damage inflicted with these will not grant Kudos, and any bonus earned from Crashbolt or Electroshock will be reduced to 80%.
  • New French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Portuguese localizations based on the original Japanese script are added in an update, as the past scripts in these languages in GV1 were based on the initial, culturally altered English localization.[3] The original English localization without voice acting is omitted.
  • Combined with the additional skills, the game has been re-adjusted and the difficulty lowered.[3]
  • "Return to title screen" has been added to the menu.
  • Gunvolt now has 100 HP in Hard Mode instead of 45. In exchange, he can no longer use Prevasion.
  • Stratos' SP Skill can now trigger Anthem.
  • Compared to the Steam (standalone) version, Elise's fight in Stratosphere (Babel) now gives EXP when defeated.
  • Some of the Steam version's features are missing.
  • Changes that appear in Striker Pack appear here.

Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 specific[]

  • GV's previously cut skills Shadowstriker and Electroshock have been added. The two are acquired via the Azure Spirits in Effusion (The Sewers) and Icebound (Frozen City) respectively. Unlike other offensive skills or its GV1 counterpart, Shadowstriker yields Kudos from raw damage. Any Kudos bonus earned from Electroshock will be reduced to 80%.
  • Score Attack Mode now has retry checkpoints.[11] Controls and shortcut settings are now preserved until the player quits the game.
  • Zonda's special skill Paradise Lost, which was cut from the original console versions due to the Switch lacking a microphone, can now be seen on all versions, including the Switch if a USB microphone is attached.[10]
  • The hidden conversation in Inferno (The Garden 2) mission, which required the player to wait at a certain spot for at least a minute, can now be triggered with only 10 seconds.
  • All DLC is pre-installed.

Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 specific[]

  • Djinn's Wish can be prevented outside of mandatory events like Sunrise Throne by fulfilling certain conditions: Have a certain amount of Kudos before entering the boss fight (requirements vary), tag the boss with seven talismans, and use Arc Unleash. This feature was added due to Luxia's appearance potentially interfering with time attack mode.[11]
  • More Passive Image Pulses now work while using Kirin XX or playing Merciless missions, mainly money-related ones.
  • On Playstation 5 the game can reach 120FPS, and is 60FPS on Switch like past releases,[11]while on Steam GV3 can reach 120FPS.
  • All DLC is pre-installed.

Extra Modes[]

Library Mode[]

This feature allows players to select any home conversation from the three games to play, as well as the two bonus drama CDs included with the limited edition 3DS and Switch Striker Pack releases edited to match in-game dialogue format. This marks the first time in the series that drama CDs have received official English translations. The two included drama CDs are:

CONNECT iX[]

Azure Striker Gunvolt CONNECT iX (蒼き雷霆 ガンヴォルト CONNECT Xイクス) is a GV3-based game mode featuring Copen as he appears in Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2 as a playable character, with some significant adjustments. It was released on February 3rd, 2026 as part of the Version 1.3.1 update, and can be accessed via the Trilogy Enhanced main menu.

It is a score attack-style mode where the player takes Copen through 5 stages from Azure Striker Gunvolt 3: Downtown Christmas, Cyber-Kowloon, Stormy Megafloat, Old Capital Temple, and Sunrise Palace (formed by the merger of Sunrise Palace 3 and Sunrise Throne). Each stage features a newly remixed theme. Upon completion of Sunrise Palace, a summary screen showing the total score, total time, and Emblems collected will appear to congratulate the player.

Copen[]

Copen retains most abilities current as of Luminous Avenger iX 2, with the following modifications.

  • Copen can Bullit Dash consecutively in the air even outside of Overdrive, the same effect as the D Burst DLC ability from iX2.
  • Copen starts at Level 99 and does not level up further, but his maximum HP is 200, like in iX2 at Level 1 or with the HP Up ability disabled.
  • Copen can no longer recharge his HP, WP and SP by touching checkpoints.
  • Recoil Dashing into a grounded enemy now Tags it instead of knocking it back as in iX2. However, like in iX2, kinetic projectiles can still be reflected by dashing.
  • Copen's maximum aerial combo multiplier is 10x instead of 5x.
  • Razor Wheel damage has been adjusted, excluding the dash attack which remains unchanged.
  • All 7 EX Weapons from iX2 are available from the start.
    • If Copen is hit while in the middle of an Anchor Nexus dash toward a locked target, he will Prevade the hit. Prevasion with Anchor Nexus does not incur Kudos Lock, but drains the EX Weapon gauge by 20%. Anchor Nexus appears azure blue in this game, unlike its magenta red appearance from the iX games.
  • The Healing Skill is now limited by the amount of Credits acquired in a stage. When enough Credits have been collected, the Healing Skill icon will appear near Copen's HP gauge. Casting Healing consumes 10,000 Credits, but does not bank Kudos. If enough Credits for multiple uses of Healing have been collected, a numerical indicator next to the Skill's icon will appear to represent it.
  • After reaching 1,000 Kudos, Copen will enter Overdrive mode until Lola stops singing. In Overdrive, Copen gains access to the following abilities from iX2: Item Magnet (attracts credits), Recovery Supporter (longer mercy invulnerability), Quick Charge (Doomsday Charge charges faster), and Auto-Recovery (HP gradually regenerates). Unlike iX2, however, Auto-Recovery restores 2% of max HP every four seconds instead of two. Lola's song can be extended for every 1,000 Kudos earned.
    • After extending Lola's song nine times in a row (usually when reaching 10,000 Kudos), Copen enters a further-enhanced Overdrive state. Copen's X-shaped aura turns golden and Lola's song changes to "Command Prompt". Copen gains access to more abilities from iX2: Extender (doubled lock-on time), EX Saver (halved EX Weapon energy consumption), Boomerazor (third hit of melee combo can be launched), ApeX Drive (doubled SP Skill attack power), and Icarus Wing (infinite Bullit Dash meter).
    • Unlike in GV3, after extending Lola's song three and six times in a row (usually when reaching 4,000 and 7,000 Kudos), the song will not change and the Kudos counter will not change color; it will only happen after extending the song nine times.
  • While in Anthem, Copen's X-shaped aura turns magenta. In addition to the enhancements of the golden Overdrive, he gains access to Infinity Trigger (infinite EX Weapon energy), Lucifer Mace (tripled Anchor Nexus damage) and Hyper Guard (reduce damage to 1 by standing still). Hyper Guard still cannot prevent BB's Deadly Wraith from damaging his "soul", and touching 4 spirits without Prevasion will result in an instant death even if he guards them.
  • Copen's Overdrive and Anthem effects are dependent on Lola's song playing as the current music track, like certain Passive Image Pulses but unlike Gunvolt's Anthem in GV3. This means that Copen's Overdrive and Anthem will be disabled while Djinn's Wish is in effect.
  • Like with SP Skills native to GV3, CoLoSSAL MAELSTROM does not bank Kudos upon use and awards a Skill Finish bonus of 1,000 Kudos upon defeating a boss. Defeating a miniboss with it yields a bonus of 500 Kudos, and defeating a regular enemy awards no Kudos at all.

Other Changes[]

  • No cutscenes or Story Mode+ dialogue occur.
  • Emblems appear in place of Image Pulse collectibles. Each stage contains 4 Emblems, each awarding 500 Kudos when collected.
  • Sunrise Palace combines Sunrise Palace 3 and Sunrise Throne from the main story. Copen does not fight Grazie or Sistina.
  • ZedΩ always receives Djinn's Wish upon defeat as usual, but other bosses are less likely to receive Djinn's Wish the more Kudos the player has, which is the opposite of the usual behavior.
  • Max HP of basic enemies has been adjusted. Most of them now have doubled HP, with the exception of robots that previously had 200 or more.
  • Lola's voicelines when activating Anthem or CoLoSSAL MAELSTROM have been re-recorded.
  • There is no English dub.

10th Anniversary Complete Box[]

GVTE 10th box set
  1. A4-size art book, "Azure Striker Gunvolt Official Complete Works". 304 pages compared to the original which had 208 pages. Gunvolt 3 characters such as Kirin have new profiles and designer comments. There are also new images added to the art gallery, including some of the store bonus art for 3DS/PS4 Striker Pack releases, GV3, and GUNVOLT RECORDS Cychronicle. However, some images from the original book have been removed at the same time. The new art book also does not include the Cutout side stories.
  2. 8-disc soundtrack set "Azure Striker Gunvolt Complete CD Collection, which is divided into two parts:
    1. 7-disc album "Azure Striker Gunvolt Complete Soundtrack" including nearly all music heard in the games, including previously unreleased Epilogue ATEMS tracks.
    2. 1-disc "Azure Striker Gunvolt Bonus Song Collection" with full versions of Decade, the newly recorded Lola songs, and the three Cychronicle and PuzzMiX original songs.
  3. B2-size tapestry with exclusive art (assembly required). The artwork printed on this tapestry can also be found in the art book.

Development and Promotion[]

On April 16th 2024, CEO Takuya Aizu revealed that four official plans for the series' 10th anniversary had been conceived, although they were still adjusting how much would be feasible.[12] While the first three--the Inti Creates Gold Archive Collection, a gaming monitor giveaway collab, and LINE stickers for GV2 and GV3--were all released by the 10th anniversary in August that year, it would take longer for the Trilogy Edition to be unveiled. It was announced on March 12th 2025, and stated by Aizu to be the most important part of the 10th anniversary project.[13]

Development of the Trilogy Enhanced began because of people reselling the original Azure Striker Gunvolt Official Complete Works at high prices online, and series director Yoshihisa Tsuda wanted to offer the book at a right price to fans. However, Inti is a game company having difficulties publishing books by themselves, so they came up with the same solution as Luminous Avenger iX 2 (which bundled a large strategy guide/art book with its limited edition): releasing a game that comes with the book. The new OCW was actually considered the main product with the game collection itself being a bonus item, and Tsuda tried to keep the budget as low as possible. But even with a low budget, he wanted returning fans to enjoy the games again and added small new features like the scrapped 0 SP Skills and Library Mode. Then the idea of adding Copen as a playable character to the TE version of Gunvolt 3 emerged, but at the time was sealed due to engine compatibility problems between GV2 and GV3 and the costs it would take.

Playable Copen would be reconsidered when confirming the more engine-compatible iX2 version of him can at least move in stages. Although footage of that compatibility test was publicly revealed alongside the game's release in July and teased as a future update, the decision was made by Aizu alone without consulting the development team. By August 27th no actual details about Copen's appearance were decided yet and there was a possibility of its development being canceled.[14] An attempt was made to have a demo ready by Tokyo Game Show (Sep 25) but they weren't able to make it in time.[15] Additional information and a tentative late January release date for the playable Copen update were finally revealed on December 24th. The reason it was made a completely separate mode--essentially a new version of GV3 built around him--was because making iX2 Copen run in GV3 proper caused several compatibility issues, and it was feared development would take much longer.[16]

Speaking in May about the decision to recast main series Copen and Lola, Tsuda stated:[17]

  • English fan translation
  • Japanese

There are several reasons (for this recasting), but I consider that the foremost is because I wanted to do something with the Copen and Lola of the "GV series". As playable characters of the story. As you all know, we depicted their feats in the "LAiX series", but I considered that I could do something with them ever since "Gunvolt 2".
The Trilogy Enhanced is a culmination of the 10 years of the series as well as a cornerstone to link to the future of the series.
I tested various approaches until I almost ran out of time, but decided that this was the best timing.
So hence why we asked these two actors to voice Copen and Lola outside of the "LAIX series" as well.

Since all existing Gunvolt series are already available on the Nintendo Switch, as of April 17th a digital release of the Trilogy Edition was decided against because it would complicate things, although Tsuda stated they were open to the concept if there is enough fan interest.[18] A digital release for Switch, Playstation 5, and Steam was revealed on July 9th in response to fan requests and after long discussions with platforms,[5] and on July 10th Tsuda posted a message in English explaining things.[4] In response to one comment (among others) asking about the lack of an Xbox release, Tsuda stated that although Xbox is personally his favorite console, it is a heavy question and tough one to answer.[19] Replying to a more confrontative comment about the subject, Tsuda stated "there are many reasons, many difficult problems, and only a few things that can be done at once while keeping the company running well."[20]

Since the TE was developed using the modern console versions as a basis, some features exclusive to the original Steam version of GV1 were excluded, although as of September 11th they are being considered for future updates.[21]

Allegedly,

  • It was Tsuda's idea to put "Triangle" in the Japanese title as the software is a 3-in-1 bundle. Aizu wanted to add "Director's Edition", but it was revised to Triangle Edition to prevent the title from becoming too long.[22]
  • Inti decided to add the bonus drama CD as an in-game feature since it is linked to the game's story, but the CD itself is hard to get nowadays[22] (note that production was halted over 7 years ago for both).
  • Shovel Knight being fightable through some means other than amiibo was considered[22] (this didn't happen in the end).
  • Characters for Japanese store exclusive bonuses are chosen by the stores and not Inti. Gamers Super Edition includes 3 acrylic figures, and the characters of choice were Kirin, Sistina, and Layla who were also chosen by Gamers.[22]

Although it was stated by the IntiCreatesEN account that on Steam the game would be a single executable file,[23] it ended up being multiple executables instead.

For a limited time the Switch and Steam releases had a discount campaign of 10% off by default for two or more weeks and up to 50% off for one month if the digital versions of either GV3 or the Striker Pack (or individual titles on Steam) have been previously purchased.

Other[]

On January 26th 2026 it was announced that the Trilogy Enhanced is one of the 34 indie game titles nominated for the "Indie Games Fans Want to See Adapted into Anime" (「アニメ化してほしいインディーゲームランキング2026」) collaborative project between AnimeJapan and BitSummit. The top ten most voted for games will be exhibited at AnimeJapan's venue in March.[24][25]

Trivia[]

  • In Japanese promotional material, the Triangle part of the title (トライアングル) is sometimes replaced with the symbol △.
    • Due to its similarity, the title has been interpreted by some fans to mean the Greek letter Delta Δ, but no official materials use the Japanese spelling for Delta, デルタ, so it seems likely this is a misinterpretation. The only case of the triangle symbol used looking more like Δ than △ is on the cover for the Official Complete Works bonus item.
  • The titles/phrases used for GV, Copen, and Kirin in the Japanese tagline are:
    • Blue-winged Lightning Piercing Through (駆け抜けた蒼翅雷光). This is similar to the stage track of Streak (Eridu) in GV1, "Lightning Pierces Through" (駆け抜ける電光).
    • White Gunclaw of Judgment (断罪の白き銃爪), with the Gunclaw part being read as Trigger (ひきがね hikigane) in the trailer narration.
    • Chain Sword Spinning the Future (鎖刃が紡ぐ至の未来).
  • The decision to fully recast main series Copen and Lola with their iX VAs appears to be the end of a sort of back-and-forth that was going on between games. In GV3 the Image Pulses of the two used voice clips of Yuma Uchida and Mayu Mineda from Luminous Avenger iX 1, but in the characters' appearance in Card-en-Ciel the original retired VAs' recordings were used. It has been speculated that a reason Lola's GV2 songs didn't appear in GUNVOLT RECORDS Cychronicle was because only the versions by the retired VA existed at the time.
  • This is the first Gunvolt game without an official English website, likely because of the project starting as an Asia-only physical release centered around the Official Complete Works bonus item.
  • The inclusion of iX2 Copen as a bonus playable character in a GV3-based mode and the difficulties faced during development of the feature is reminiscent of Switch Striker Pack development. At that time an early conception of Kirin (who possibly wasn't named yet and is only known to have been defined as a sword-wielding girl) was considered for inclusion as a bonus playable character in the pack's version of GV2, but the idea was scrapped because it wasn't feasible.
