"This is Ace. I've located the intruders. They're as good as dead."
—Ace, Luminous Avenger iX 2
[2]
Ace is one of the special Workers known as the Gravekeepers tasked with defending the Grave Pillar from intruders. He moves smoothly like a ninja and attacks with sharp boomerangs, making him a very mobile type of Worker. He’s the fastest of all Workers.[3] He is the boss of the mission Space Block.
Defeating him unlocks the Rolling Ripper EX Weapon.
Website Description[]

Japanese
Ace is a highly maneuverable Worker who specializes in bisecting enemies with his deadly boomerangs and tricky movements.
He despises inefficiency and takes to his job as executioner with extreme indifference. Even the other Gravekeepers know little about his personality. When not given any tasks, Ace often spends entire days sitting perfectly still--so perhaps there is little to know in the first place.
Ace is actually the latest in a line of Gravekeepers who have been replaced over the years, each subjecting themselves to stricter and stricter training. Ace himself doesn't recall having any issue with his training, however. In fact, considering he lives with a purpose to defend humans in a world where they have gone extinct, perhaps discipline is just what he needed.[2]
Appearance[]
Ace is a male Worker with a ninja-like appearance. He has a scarf which sometimes covers his mouth and has two large boomerangs on the sides of his arms.

History[]
Space Block[]

Copen and Lola encounter him in the Space Block, likely as one of the last Gravekeepers faced. Ace immediately identifies them as intruders and declares his intent to eliminate them. Lola is surprised at his aggressiveness and refusal to talk over things, and Ace replies there's no need for interrogations in this age. Although he claims that resistance is futile and that he will bisect them, he is destroyed.
Hanging Gardens[]
Later in the Hanging Gardens, a rebuilt Ace confronts Copen again, being the third Gravekeeper he faces there. He is destroyed once more.
As with the other Gravekeepers, Ace's ultimate fate is unclear. It is possible the Grave Pillar's maintenance system will rebuild him again. While a blackout occurs and some machines in the Gardens begin shutting down after Mother's destruction, it is not known if this affects the tower below as well, and in the Hard Mode ending no such blackout is shown occurring.
Abilities[]
Boss Battle Skills[]
While Ace's actions are random during phase changes (at the start of the battle, 2/3 HP, 1/3 HP), every other time he follows either of the two patterns. For simplicity's sake, the skills will be referred to as numbers:
1 - Quick Loop, 2 - Tri-Impact, 3 - Wild Flash, 4 - Phi Shot, 5 - Deathly Illusion
1st Pattern: 3 -> 1 -> 4 -> 2 -> 1 -> 3 -> 5 (Ace's AI resets)
2nd Pattern: 4 -> 2 -> 5 (Ace's AI resets)
Skill | Description |
---|---|
Ace begins with a quick jump before throwing a boomerang at Copen. Watch the boomerang's arc carefully. On Hard Mode, there are 3 boomerangs instead of 1. |
Ace throws both his arm blades as a huge boomerang, catching it in mid-air before slamming it into the ground, creating explosive shockwaves. On Hard, he sends 2 homing boomerangs before the slam. |
While using boomerangs to toy with his prey, Ace swiftly attacks with a sudden slash. His movements make the attack hard to predict. |
( |
Ace throws his two boomerangs, catches them, then unleashes several smaller boomerangs in a wide range attack. More boomerangs on Hard. |
Ace coordinates a simultaneous attack with his doubles. Attacking one of the doubles by mistake may lead to trouble... Four clones on Hard, and the boomerangs at the end of the attack cannot be destroyed. |
Ace turns invincible and throws a massive amount of boomerangs that assault the entire area as if they were falling stars. On Hard, Ace follows up with another wave that only leaves the corners as safe spots. |

Musical Themes[]
Title | Context | Composer | Audio |

Solitary Space (孤高宙域) |
Space Block stage BGM, and Ace's theme. | Ryo Kawakami |

Track notes:[5]
- Solitary Space
It’s the track of the Space Block and Ace’s theme. The queerness of “space” existing within the tower, and the image of a stoic and silent boss combine here. The cool A Melody tone that feels like a shadow, the meager Japanese music sound scale were added there taking into account his Ninja-like design. The change of rhythm of the B melody, depicting agility, is my favorite part.
Trivia[]
- Given the Workers' resemblance to the Mighty Numbers, as the scarf wearing, dual blade wielding agile one, Ace's basis is likely Mighty No. 7, Brandish. His boomerang abilities also resemble a blade toss and return skill of Brandish in Mighty Gunvolt Burst, a skill that was based on Tenjian.
- Coincidentally, he's voiced by Arin Hanson in the English dub. Arin's "Egoraptor" cartoon persona can be spotted in the background throughout Brandish's stage in Mighty No. 9 as part of a Kickstarter reward for backers who pledge over $2500.
- As Luminous Avenger iX2 bosses are named after bike-related products,[6] Ace is presumably named after the bicycle Priority Ace. His Japanese name, Slug, presumably comes from the Slug Gasser mountain bike.
- In Gunvolt News Channel 34, iX2 director Toshiaki Tai was asked "The hell does Slug mean?" by stream host IKKAN, and Tai claimed "Who knows... I just named him Slug cuz he throws boomerangs." While IKKAN asked "Hey but the word slugger refers to a batter doesn't it?", Tai then said "...which is why Matt didn't get it and renamed him Ace."[7] Based on his cryptic lines and him neither confirming nor denying Ultraseven jokes, it seems the origin of the name Slug might actually be the Eye Slugger, Ultraseven's signature weapon that is also known as the "Space Boomerang".
- Starting from bottom right and going counter clockwise, the characters surrounding Ace appear to be stylized forms of the kanji of Kuji-kiri, Rin, Pyou, Tou, Sha, Kai, Jin, Retsu, Zai, Zen.[8]
- Ace pays homage to Quick Man in Mega Man 2; both are fast and agile bosses who use boomerangs and are weak to time-stopping weapons.
- Being a robotic ninja, Ace may also be a homage to Hidden Phantom in the Mega Man Zero series, as many of his moves are similar to Phantom's.
